Not the Time to Step Back! Addressing the Impact of Funding Termination on HIV/AIDS Programs in the Asia-Pacific Region

Posted on Mar 20, 2025

We, the civil society organizations and community networks across the Asia-Pacific region, express our deep concern over the recent decision by the United States Government to terminate funding to the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). The termination of U.S. funding to UNAIDS poses an unprecedented threat to global health and undermines the progress made in combating the HIV/AIDS epidemic and jeopardizes the health and well-being of millions worldwide. However, through concerted and collaborative action, we can mitigate its impact and continue our pursuit of a world free from HIV/AIDS.

In this background, we developed an advocacy letter addressed to UNAIDS, donors, and policymakers to unite in preserving the gains made in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
